As a Visitor Assistant, you will be one of the first employees to greetand welcome visitors from all over the world, and ensure they have amemorable, educational, and safe experience at the New England Aquarium.From the bustling penguin colony and the four-story Giant Ocean Tankteeming with tropical fish, to the Simons Theatre offering the mostcinematic way imaginable to see astounding creatures from our blueplanet, we are committed to making sure each visitor is delighted bytheir aquarium adventure. This is a part-time, regular position. Theschedule will be Saturdays from 8:30a 6p, Sundays from 8:30a 5p andMondays from 8:30a 5p. Work must be conducted onsite. ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS Demonstrate consistently high standards of customer service byinteracting with our visitors and staff in a way that is professional,helpful, welcoming, and engaging. Scan tickets for entry into theAquarium and the Simons Theatre while guiding visitors to amenities suchas restrooms, elevators, dining options, maps, and presentationschedules. Greet visitors on the plaza, guide them to the correctlocation depending on their ticket type and/or membership status, andinform them of the next available time slot for entry on busy days.Enforce timed ticketing on busy days, assist visitors with the bestlocations in the area to wait for their ticketing time slot, and suggestother activities in the area when the Aquarium is sold out of ticketsfor the day. Calmly, courteously, and professionally respond to visitorconcerns and complaints, take action to help resolve them, and refer toLead Visitor Assistants and/or Associate Managers as needed. Assist withtraining teen interns in the Visitor Experience department throughcoaching and leading by example. Answer questions about tickets andcoupons for the Aquarium and the Simons Theatre, memberships, animalsand exhibits, daily programs, general tourist information, and anythingrelated to the Aquarium and the surrounding area. Greet school/tourgroups to the Aquarium in an engaging and welcoming manner whileinforming chaperones of our rules and guidelines. Assist with groupcheck-in by stamping hands and guiding group entry into the building.Assist the Conservation Learning department with monitoring the Sharkand Ray Touch Tank, and maintaining staff presence in exhibit halls toanswer questions, provide general assistance, and relay emergencies tothe Information Desk. Cross train at the Ticket Booth and InformationDesk. Perform other position-related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Training and Experience High School Diploma required. Minimum 6months of job-related experience required. Cashiering skills andexperience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Engaging andempathetic customer service skills. Comfort with fast-paced, crowdedenvironments. Excellent communication skills. Ability to respond calmlyand efficiently during rapidly changing or stressful situations. Abilityto stand for long hours in inclement weather.
