JOB REQUIREMENTS: Introductory Statement This classification shall beopen only to completely qualified and experienced personnel. Judgment asto qualification and experience shall be solely at the discretion of theCompany. In the event of a vacancy, the promotion of an employee to thisclassification shall be solely at the discretion of the Company. In theevent an employee in this classification is unable to remain qualifiedas required to perform welding, the employee shall revert to Pipe Fitterand Repairman - Class C.General Purpose of Work Performs under generalsupervision, various construction, operation, and maintenance functionsin the Gas Distribution Department.General Duties Performs the work ofPipe Layer - Gas Distribution Department. Installs routine gas services,taps and bags gas mains, and pumps manholes. Performs other incidentaland related duties as assigned.Welding Duties Performs assigned weldingwork which may include but not be limited to installation of gas servicetees, butt welds of pipe of any diameter, fabrication of meterconnections, fabrication of regulator or valve piping and any relatedfacilities. Performs assigned maintenance and repair welding on any gasdistribution facilities. Work may be required on pressured orunpressured gas distribution facilities.Qualifications One year'sexperience as a Pipe Layer and demonstration of suitable proficiency inthat classification or equivalent training or experience satisfactory tothe Company is required. Must have demonstrated satisfactory aptitudeand learning ability for the duties of gas distribution construction,operation, and maintenance. Must have and keep a Wisconsin driver'slicense. Must have the stamina to work outdoors under extreme weatherconditions. Must have a temperament and personality which enable theemployee to work as a member of a crew or work team. Must be reasonablyavailable for overtime and emergency work assignments. Must learn orhave learned and practice all safety rules which apply to the work,including the use of all special protective equipment used in this typeof work. Must qualify and retain qualification as a welder in accordancewith the requirements of the Madison Gas and Electric Company GasDistribution Department welder qualification procedures, which shallconform to Part 192, Chapter 1, of Title 49, Code of FederalRegulations; the Wisconsin Administrative Code - Chapter PSC 135; andthe latest edition of the American Petroleum Institute Standard API 1104adopted by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.Knowledge andSkills to be Acquired Demonstrates a good knowledge of the Company'sgas distribution system, equipment, and apparatus.
