JOB REQUIREMENTS: Provide technical support to the Claims Department inthe evaluation of psychiatric claims. Serve as liaison between theClaims staff and all physician constituents, both within and outside ofNorthwestern Mutual, for psychiatric aspects of claims. Advocate theCompany's psychiatric position on claims and resolve disputes on thepsychiatric aspects of them. Monitor and continually improve protocolsfor the psychiatric management of claims. 1.Provide expert psychiatrictechnical support to the Claims Department in order to ensure the timelyand consistent review of the psychiatric components of claims throughevaluation of medical records (Attending Physician Statements, treatmentrecords, test results, Evaluative Medical Examination (EME) reports, andPaper Review reports), provide opinions to Claim analysts, and identifywhen additional information is needed. 2.Identify the need for andcoordinate the handling of claim referrals to psychiatric staff or toEME/Paper Review physicians, and act as the liaison between the ClaimsDepartment and all psychiatric resources psychiatric consultants, EMEphysicians, and other outside psychiatric experts to ensure thatpsychiatric reviews are thorough and complete and adhere to the claimphilosophy of the Claims Department. Triage and review all psychiatriccases being referred to Psychiatric Experts to determine level of reviewrequired. municate with and advocate Company's position toattending physicians and physician insureds regarding insured'spsychiatric condition, clinical findings, significance of and supportfor claimed limitations, appropriateness of treatment and alternatives,expected duration of claim, and potential for rehabilitation or returnto work in order to assist the Claims Department in expediting theirpsychiatric reviews and providing the expected levels of customerservice. Resolve psychiatric disputes, via negotiation and/orparticipation in litigation. 4.Research, create and present allpsychiatric education and training for the Claims Department and providenew analyst psychiatric training classes and prepare periodicpresentations to help ensure efficiency and consistency in administeringpsychiatric claim protocols and processes.Minimum of a Master's Degreein Social Work or Master's Degree in Psychology Current LCSW or LPCstate license Minimum of 5-7 years of clinical mental healthexperienceExcellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to workeffectively with others at all experience levelsSuperior written andverbal communication skills.Strong analytical skills and proven abilityto exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills.Demonstratedleadership abilityTeaching experience in a staff development role, unitmanagement experience or other equivalent responsibleprofessional/administrative experience.Knowledge of disability insuranceor prior experience in insurance...
