ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: + Hauls and drives equipment, crew and materials to and from work areas + Assists in setting up operation + Operates and maintains skid loader with various attachments, mini loader with various attachments, large loader with various attachments, backhoe, large grader, excavator used for excavation (not demolition), directional boring machine, track dozer, track loader, semi-tractor with dump trailer, semi-tractor with flat trailer, stone chipper, larger asphalt roller to remove, replace, compact and finish asphalt and concrete for street operations + Operates sewer jet rodder machines, drag machines, heavy vacuum equipment, front-end loader and boom trucks for sewer operations (this does not include operating boom truck in a manner that requires a certified crane operator) + Operates a variety of trucks and other equipment for leaf and snow removal and ice control operations + Drives and operates other equipment as directed + Inspects tools and equipment before, during and after operation + Performs pre-trip inspections, cleaning, preventive maintenance and makes minor adjustments and repairs on equipment when necessary + Reads street maps and related atlases to determine various locations + Works with and/or directs crew of lower class at work site + Completes daily destination log and other related forms as required + Assist in the maintenance and repair of division operations REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: + Traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operation + Operation and maintenance of heavy equipment + Hazards and safety precautions of the work + Utility and street cleaning operations + Utility and street repair operations Skill in: + Driving and maneuvering heavy equipment + Operating a variety of pieces of complex heavy equipment + Working in varying weather conditions + Understanding and following oral and written instructions + Effectively working with others and the public + Reading and understanding job related documents + Operating computers. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: + Must be able to read at the tenth (10th) grade reading level. + Three (3) years of experience in the operation of heavy maintenance and construction equipment + City of Toledo employees may substitute 2,080 documented alternate, assist, or training hours operating heavy equipment for the City of Toledo to meet the experience requirement. + Must successfully pass required skills test for the position to be eligible for selection. ADDITIONAL OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: + Must possess a valid state-issued Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) + Position assignment for some divisions will require tanker endorsement.
