The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be a clinical faculty member of the CU-SOM, entering at the level of Instructor or Senior Instructor.The core components of this position are the pre-surgical considerations, out-patient post-operative care and evaluations, and deep brain stimulation programming. This primarily includes patients with advanced movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and essential tremor. Surgical treatments for these patients include deep brain stimulation, high intensity focused ultrasound, and experimental stem cell transplantation. The Advanced Practice Provider will provide outpatient care via a mix of independent clinics and clinics alongside a physician provider. The Advanced Practice Provider will also participate in multi-disciplinary treatment planning and coordination of care with stereotactic functional neurosurgery, movement disorders neurology, neuropsychology, neuroradiology, neuropalliative care, neurophysiology and other specialties as needed. + Order and interpret diagnostic testing and develop management strategies using evidence-based medicine. + Facilitate referrals to other care providers. + Prescribe appropriate pharmacological agents. + Provide patient education and advocacy. + Consult with supervising neurosurgeon and neurologist + Follow patients in outpatient clinic. + Evaluate new referrals for urgency, completeness, and appropriateness for neurosurgery. + Order and monitor pre-operative testing. + Participation in Advanced Therapies Movement Disorders (ATMD) Multi-Disciplinary Care Conference + Perform clinical assessments and standardized rating scales. + Perform deep brain stimulation programming under the supervision of movement disorders - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.
