Plumbing Inspector

JOB REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Reviews plans for building andplumbing installations for compliance of codes prior to issuance ofpermits. Reviews and writes permits. Performs on-site inspections ofvarious phases of construction to ensure compliance as required byWisconsin Administrative & Building codes and City ordinances andpolicies. Investigates complaints, with follow-up if necessary. Consultswith property owners, builders, architects, and engineers to resolveproblems and complaints regarding code application and pletes daily inspection reports. Partakes in the activities ofvarious inspection department boards, committees, or review teams.Confers with other City department personnel on areas of code or policyoverlap. Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, worksovertime and extra hours as required. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Assists withstorm damage assessment when needed. Acts as a witness in court actionsfor compliance of orders issued for various violations. Initiatesnoncompliance orders, citations, and other enforcement actions whennecessary. Oversees record maintenance, report preparation andpermit/report data entry into computer files. OTHEREXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements of Work Considerableexperience in the plumbing trade, a Journeyman Plumbing License orMaster Plumber License and the ability to obtain Commercial PlumbingInspector credential by the Department of Safety and ProfessionalServices (DSPS) and in accordance with DSPS 305.625. The followingknowledge, abilities and skills are also required: Considerableknowledge of the principles and practices of building and plumbing code.Thorough knowledge of State and City plumbing and UDC building codes.Knowledge of computer applications. Ability to read and interpret plansand specifications. Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with thepublic in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to interpret qualityof building materials and their application. Ability to prepare andmaintain accurate records. Ability to investigate complaints and resolvethem and or, if necessary, initiate appropriate compliance action. Validdriver's license. Ability to obtain UDC building inspectioncertification.
