Summary The Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr., VAMC in Memphis, TN is recruiting for an Cardiothoracic Surgeon to serve as a full-time surgical care physician. The position is accountable to the Chief of Surgery, for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards. Responsibilities This vacancy will remain open until filled. Cardiovascular Surgery involves the pre-operative, operative, and postoperative care of patients to correct or treat various pathological conditions of the heart and related blood vessels and structures within the chest. Thoracic Surgery encompasses the care of patients with congenital and acquired pathologic conditions within the chest to include the heart, coronary arteries, myocardium, pericardium, lungs, esophagus, chest wall, and diaphragm. Duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the medical and surgical needs of inpatients and outpatients on the Cardiothoracic surgery service. Provide clinical service in the Cardio/Thoric clinic. Responsibilities include clinical activities supporting multi-disciplinary programs in chest oncology, research, teaching and training residents. The Cardiothoracic surgeon rotates with other physicians on a regular basis as needed. Works on-call as priorities demonstrate a need. Responsible for providing the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures. Outstanding interpersonal skills are essential. Admission, work-up, diagnosis, consultation, fecal occult blood tests, and ordering/prescribing medications to treat general surgical, cardiovascular and thoracic patients. Consultation/referral to other services/sections, as appropriate. Experience in minimally invasive thoracic surgery and TAVR. Successful completion of an approved Residency program in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. Demonstrate you have previously performed cardiovascular or thoracic procedures, as appropriate.
