Other duties as assigned. Follows CDC guidelines for sterile technique and isolation, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand hygiene according to policy, and enforces safety regulations. Manages and intervenes appropriately for the patient with current venous access issues, including prioritization, appropriate venous access choice for age, therapy, and any current complication’s impact on the needs for IV therapy. Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities and supports departmental quality standards and initiatives. Evaluates the need for and provide patient teaching in all aspects of the venous access specialty. Identifies individualized plan of care based on patients’ needs related to both infusion therapy and venous access consult and intervenes appropriately. Evaluates patients’ developmental level, identify increased physical/emotional dependency needs, and evaluate the availability of support systems consistent with assessment. Performs and documents all procedures and assessments according to department policy. Obtains patient assessment, evaluating diagnosis, previous medical history, existing infusion-related complications, and ordered therapy as it relates to current venous access consult. Administers treatments and medications, interprets and verifies physician orders, and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions. Functions appropriately in Code Blue and other clinical emergencies. Demonstrates continuous competency in specific procedures related to venous access and infusion therapy. Provides expert resourcing to staff nurses and other departments as consulted.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• PICC Validation [Required]• Port Validation [Required]• Peripheral Intravenous Access Validation [Required]• EKG (based on patient population; see document EKG and Advanced Life Support Requirements) [Preferred]Minimum 2+ years of pediatric nursing experience, preferably in PICU, NICU, Pediatric ED, or Pediatric Hem/Onc. [Preferred]Specialized vascular access experience, including:Peripheral IV insertion in neonates through adolescentsUse of ultrasound guidance for vascular accessExperience with central line care, dressing changes, and troubleshootingPICC placement experience (adult, pediatric or neonatal)Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills in high-acuity or procedural environments.
