Initiates the incident reporting mechanisms when indicated. Other duties as assigned. Utilizes appropriate channels of communication when initiating change, reporting information or concerns. Promotes and contributes positively to intra and interdepartmental relations. Assists with the orientation of new employees and assumes unit responsibility when delegated by the nursing manager or director. Performs specialized nursing care in all phases of the peri-operative role. Assists with pre-and postoperative assessment of the patient and updates preference cards as needed. Performs surgical counts per policy and prepares operating room setup. Recognizes abnormal diagnostic laboratory data, blood gas values, radiologic data, and knows the implied significance of each. Recognizes emergency situations and reacts efficiently and appropriately. Assures patients' right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality at all times. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: u2022 Computer proficiency required. u2022 Perioperative Nursing required. u2022 Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills required. u2022 At least two (2) years circulating and/or scrub experience required in a multi-specialty setting. u2022 Previous experience and working knowledge of computerized documentation required. u2022 Ability to stand for long periods of time required. u2022 Ability to consistently demonstrate clear communication skills and strong anticipatory skills required. u2022 Manual dexterity, lifting, pulling, pushing of equipment, heavy instrument sets, and patients required. u2022 Basic RN Nursing skills required. u2022 Circulating skills required. u2022 Scrub skills required. u2022 Fluent in English language, speaking, reading, writing required. u2022 Ability to prepare surgical suites with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards required. u2022 Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment utilized for surgical procedures required. u2022 Understanding of the procedures being performed and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon required. u2022 Strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality required. u2022 Up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards and requirements required. u2022 Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals required. u2022 Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office required. u2022 Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements required. u2022 Cognitive, psychomotor, and affective behaviors that demonstrate accountability and responsibility for identifying and meeting the needs of peri-operative patients required.
