Job Description: Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), this position provides care for women and newborns. The Labor/Delivery Scrub Tech utilizes sterile techniques to prepare surgical suites for C-Section and tubal ligation cases, prepares delivery tables for vaginal births, and functions as an Orderly (operating room technician), assisting physicians with surgical procedures. ? Location: American Fork Hospital u2013 American Fork, Utah ? Department/Unit: Labor & Delivery ? Shifts: Part-time 24 hours/week Two 12-hour shifts ? Schedule: Variable, - mix of days, evenings, swings, nights, weekends & holidays ? Pay: Starting at $18.75+ (based on experience) ? This position is a Certified Nursing Assistant / Health Unit Coordinator that will train to Scrub within 90 days of hire Essential Functions + Ensures that the patient room is ready to receive the patient with equipment and supplies necessary during the labor and delivery process. May be responsible for maintaining and stocking birthing rooms appropriately. + Assists patients with bed baths, showering, use of bed pans and restrooms, foley catheter care, and ambulation. + Obtains and documents vital signs of patients and newborns before, during, and after delivery. + Prepares the room for vaginal delivery by draping the patient and preparing appropriate equipment, including the delivery table, and assists the RN. + Prepares the room for C-Section by preparing the patient, scrubbing for procedures, setting up and passing instruments, and completing all instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with the RN. Ensures sterility is maintained throughout the operative procedure. + Understands the plan of care and delivers basic patient care by collecting and documenting patient data and reporting patient changes to the RN. + May perform clerical duties as assigned. Skills + Certified Nursing Assistant + Patient Care + Vital Signs + Sterilization Techniques + Ambulation + Catheter Care + Documentations + Office Administration + Catheter Placement + Sterility Minimum Qualifications + Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice. + Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. + Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications + One year of patient care experience preferably in a hospital setting. + Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Labor & Delivery or Certified Nursing Assistant Orderly for the (OR) Operating Room. + Open schedule with the ability to work a variety of shifts. Physical Requirements + Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. + Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. + Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. + Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. + Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.) + May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
