Assistant Professor - Pediatric Orthopedic Hand and Trauma Surgeon Description University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department: Orthopedics Job Title: Assistant Professor - Pediatric Orthopedic Hand and Trauma Surgeon Position #00845105 - Requisition #39086 Job Summary: Key Responsibilities + Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform detailed physical examinations; assess and manage acute and chronic medical conditions, with a focus on orthopedic hand and trauma diagnoses, while providing direct care to a defined patient population. + Prescribe medications, physical and occupational therapy, imaging studies, and durable medical equipment as clinically indicated; complete FMLA paperwork, school notes, and other required forms. + Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care; write appropriate medical orders, including those for controlled substances. Perform casting, splinting, and wound care as needed. + Conduct clinical research related to specific orthopedic conditions; assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication; support research training and supervision of graduate students, medical students, and residents; assist with grant preparation and project reporting. + Perform emergency lifesaving procedures in situations such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, significant hemorrhage, and other acute emergencies. + Provide fracture reductions in the emergency department or clinic setting as needed, excluding conscious sedation. + Adhere to and promote safety, environmental, and infection-control protocols. + Coordinate clinical workflows and support staff activities to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. + Document patient encounters through comprehensive progress notes in both office and hospital records; maintain all required documentation and treatment records. + Provide patient and family education; train and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, physician assistant students, and other health-profession trainees during clinical activities. + Maintain professional development through participation in educational programs, review of current literature, in-service trainings, and workshops. + Participate in academic activities including weekly conferences, journal clubs, and symposia, contributing through attendance, presentations, and organizational support. + Engage in community outreach events by delivering educational presentations and assisting with planning, coordination, and participation. + Develop written educational materials and standardized treatment protocols for specific conditions and postoperative care. + Prepare and deliver PowerPoint presentations and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional, local, and national meetings. + Achieve proficiency in documentation and use of the current electronic medical record system; serve as a resource to other healthcare providers. + Provide attending call coverage and urgent surgical support for the pediatric orthopedics department as needed. + Manage simple and complex orthopedic trauma cases, including polytrauma, intra-articular fractures, and associated reconstructive procedures. + Provide conservative and surgical management of simple and complex pediatric hand conditions, including camptodactyly, clinodactyly, finger/thumb hypoplasia, ganglion cysts, mallet finger, polydactyly, radial dysplasia, symbrachydactyly, syndactyly, and trigger finger.
