Survey Crew Chief – Raleigh, NC Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our team in Raleigh, NC. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, leading field operations, and delivering high‑quality survey data for civil engineering, land development, transportation, and infrastructure projects across the region. The Crew Chief will oversee daily field activities, ensure accuracy and safety, and serve as a key representative of our survey team in the field. Key Responsibilities + Lead a field survey crew on a variety of project types, including boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction staking, as‑built, and utility surveys. + Operate and maintain survey instruments such as robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors, and digital levels. + Interpret engineering plans, construction documents, and control networks to execute accurate field layout and data collection. + Perform field calculations, establish control points, and verify data accuracy before submitting to office staff. + Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients regarding project requirements and field conditions. + Ensure all field work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. + Train, mentor, and oversee survey technicians to support their growth and ensure high‑quality work. + Document daily field activities, maintain equipment logs, and submit field notes and data files in a timely manner. Qualifications + 3–5+ years of progressive survey experience, with at least 1–2 years in a crew lead or chief role. + Strong proficiency with modern survey equipment (Trimble, Leica, Topcon, etc.). + Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, plats, and construction drawings. + Solid understanding of field survey methods, boundary principles, and construction layout. + Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. + Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate active construction sites. + Strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills. + (Preferred) Experience with DOT, municipal, or large‑scale commercial projects. + (Preferred) Familiarity with survey software such as Trimble Access, Carlson, or Civil 3D.
