Summary The Lead DRT position is located in Radiology at the Columbus VA Ambulatory Care Center and is directly supervised by Radiology Supervisor. The technologist leads a team of Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists (Multi- Modality) and performs technical work in support of MRI, Computed Axial Tomography (CT) and as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT). Supports radiologists or other medical officers to produce diagnostic imaging studies used to diagnose medical conditions. Responsibilities Lead DRT Functions: Directs on the job training for employees Leads team of Multi-Modality technologists who perform MRI, CT and general radiography Evaluates work performance of lower level employees and recommend performance ratings to Supervisor Has skill in technical planning and oversight to set and adjust work priorities and ensure work requirements are met based on employee capabilities Provides age appropriate care Maintains knowledge of medical center, VHA, and government-wide human resources management regulations, policies, and procedures. Reviews and enforces standards as set by The Joint Commission Subject manner expert in meetings with service leaders Represent the Service in higher level facility meetings when Supervisors are not available- EHRM expert and point of contact for Service MRI Functions: The incumbent's principal responsibilities are to perform MRI procedures for the patients of this ambulatory care center. Maintain the cleanliness of his/her assigned work area, maintain necessary supplies in the work area; report shortages to supervisor, as well as equipment failure. In the absence of the supervisor, contact Biomedical Engineering or the service vendor to arrange for service. Responsible for recognizing and exhibiting good safety practices; comply with published and communicated safety procedures; immediately report observed safety infractions and unsafe working conditions; to report in a timely fashion work related illnesses and injuries.- Interpret requests or instructions from radiologist or medical ordering providers. Independently interpret and carry out the requests made by physicians. Prepare room, equipment and material needed for patient procedures. Properly identifies the patient and the image; use left and right markers essential so that mistaken identity does not occur. The technologist must follow local patient identifier procedures. Prepare contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist. Follow prescribed protocols required to perform procedures. Administer contrast material, under the direction of the radiologist, according to protocols. Observe patients during procedures and report complications or unusual events. Perform computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, credit of patient visits, complications and/or quality improvement activities of the Radiology Department. Check and make minor adjustments to equipment such as setting wedges or changing adjusters. CT Functions Perform CT scans for the patients of this ambulatory care center. Examinations include, but are not limited to, CT examinations of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, head, extremities, neck, etc. The incumbent will also assist the radiologist in performing interventional procedures under CT guidance. Interprets requests or instructions from radiologist or medical officers. Independently interprets and carries out the requests made by physicians. Explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushions and shields patients as appropriate. Prepare room, equipment and materials needed for patient procedures. Properly identifies the patient and the image. Uses left and right markers. This is essential so that mistaken identity does not occur. The technologist must be certain that the patient ID band and the request are identical.
