Go to CAPPS Recruit to Sign In DESCRIPTION: We are seeking highly motivated college students to join our DPS team as summer interns. The interns will work with our experienced DPS professionals and gain hands-on experience in various areas of the agency. This is a paid internship designed to provide interns with real-world experience in the following fields:Chief Auditor's Office (CAO) - Work involves evaluating and analyzing business processes and records to assess and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes; and conducting audits for program economy, efficiency, and effectiveness.Crime Lab (CLD) - Work involves special projects including compiling and interpreting statistical data and assisting Evidence Technicians in routine tasks..Observing and, when feasible, assisting Forensic Scientists in routing tasks.Driver License (DLD) - Work involves researching DLD data and building a queuing model tool accessible with Microsoft Excel using the Erlang C formula. Interns will also work with the DLD team to develop and analyze performance metrics.Finance (FIN) - Work involves technical accounting support work, including recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports.Homeland Security (HSD) - Work supports homeland security-related projects associated with the Preparedness and Critical Infrastructure Protection formation Technology (IT) - Work involves gaining hands-on experience across a broad range of enterprise operations, including technical support, system maintenance, and network security. Interns will assist with hardware/software troubleshooting, asset management, and strategic IT projects while learning the foundations of the software development life cycle and cloud frastructure Operations (IOD) - Performs administrative support work within one or more sections of the division which include: Division Support Operations, Facilities Design Construction, Human Resource Operations, Procurement Contract Services, or Victim Employee Support Services.Texas Highway Patrol (THP) - Work involves administrative work to learn about the peace officer training, patrol, reporting, and investigative duties and requirements.Training Operations (TOD) - Work involves planning, researching, developing, organizing, instructing, and evaluating various aspects of Training and Operations Division activities.The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES:Must be enrolled during th spring semester 2026 in an academic program at an educational institution listed in the US Department of Educationand#8217;s Database of Accredited Post secondary Institutions and Programs.Must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least 12 (twelve) semester hours at the end of the spring 2026 semester OR a current graduate student enrollee, and have a minimum academic grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.Must be available to work on-site for the duration of the internship, with the possibility of remote work as appropriate.Must be a US citizen.Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education and#8211; Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university taking classes towards a degree with at least twelve (12) semester hours completed. Any additional education requirements specific to an internship field are indicated below:Crime Lab:Must be a Sam Houston State University graduate student with prior DPS Crime Lab approval for this assignment. Should be pursuing a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Computer Forensics or Forensic Science and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.Finance:Must be attending an accredited college or university majoring in Accounting or Finance.Homeland Security:Must be attending an accredited college or university majoring in Homeland Security, Political Science, History, Public Policy, or a related field.Texas Highway Patrol:Must be attending an accredited college or university majoring in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field.Training Operations Division:Must be attending an accredited college or university majoring in PE, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field.Experience and#8211; None.Licensure and/or Certification - Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.Critical Organizational Infrastructure requirements and#8211; This job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure; must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role. Additionally, and more specifically, must not be employed by nor have any connection or continuous connections to any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed in 15 C.F.R. and#167;791.4.Regulatory knowledge and#8211; Must possess a working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and terpersonal Skills and#8211; Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external anizational and Prioritization Skills and#8211; Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.
