Join Baylor Scott & White Health. _Apply Today_ $2,500 Sign on Bonus Job Title: Police Detective Department: Public Safety Facility: Baylor University Medical Center- Dallas JOB SUMMARY Under the immediate supervision of the Professional Standards Admin/CID Sergeant, the Detective is expected to perform comprehensive criminal investigations, law enforcement, and crime prevention work, and enforce State laws and BSW policies. In addition, the detective performs investigative work and general administrative activities in carrying out the direction of the Professional Standards Division Captain and the BSW Chief of Police. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: u2022 Respond to in-progress calls requiring immediate law enforcement assistance. u2022 Conducts criminal and special investigations, including domestic violence, burglaries, thefts, robberies, assaults, homicides, etc. u2022 Prepares case documentation for filing with the District Attorney and presents case evidence in Court as required. u2022 Receives calls from and assists other law enforcement agencies in emergencies or with requests for investigation assistance. u2022 Coordinates with supervisor on progress and problems concerning assigned cases. u2022 Supervises crime scene investigations. u2022 Maintains records on investigative assignments. u2022 May perform duties in other areas of the Police Department when called upon to do so. u2022 Assists other Detectives with follow-up investigations and is actively involved in the routine gathering of evidence, questioning witnesses, and apprehension of suspects. u2022 Is required to assist fellow detectives by rotation in the responsibility of being on-call, adhering to the BSW on-call policy. u2022 Maintains, facilitates, and actively participates in the achievement of the BSW Mission, Goals, and Values. u2022 Provides information and guidance to the public/victims regarding case status and processes. u2022 May review reports submitted by officers and/or other Detectives to ensure completeness. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: u2022 Modern police methods and procedures, including crime prevention techniques. u2022 Criminal law, with particular emphasis on apprehension, arrest, and custody of persons accused of misdemeanors and felonies. u2022 Rules of evidence pertaining to search and seizure and the preservation and presentation of evidence in court. u2022 Criminal investigation techniques and procedures, including crime scene investigation, interrogation, fingerprinting and photography. u2022 Maintains a clear understanding of the concepts and philosophy of Community Policing and Problem-Oriented Policing. u2022 Principles of supervision and training. u2022 Use and care of firearms. Ability to: u2022 Gather, assemble, analyze, and evaluate facts and evidence. u2022 Draw logical conclusions from information and make proper recommendations. u2022 Interpret and apply laws and regulations. u2022 Train and mentor rotational Detectives in the full range of investigative procedures. u2022 Analyze situations quickly and accurately and take effective courses of action. u2022 Demonstrate keen powers of observation and memory. u2022 Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work. u2022 Practically apply the philosophy of Community Policing toward achieving the organizational mission statement. u2022 Outstanding written and verbal communication skills BENEFITS Our competitive benefits package includes the following - Immediate eligibility for health and welfare benefits - 401(k) savings plan with dollar-for-dollar match up to 5% - Tuition Reimbursement - PTO accrual beginning Day 1 Note: Benefits may vary based upon position type and/or level QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent - EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience _PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Five or more years of law enforcement experience, including three years_ as a detective, along with prior experience working with the sex crime and financial fraud units. - CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire. Licensed Peace Officer: Lic Peace Officer required within 90 days of hire.
