Minimum Requirements:Associate's Degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade 3 (Hourly)Position Description:The Center for Predictive Medicine seeks a Research Assistant III to support the principal investigator in a laboratory conducting research on drug discovery and basic scientific studies for viral diseases. The main responsibilities will be to participate in the design, execution, and analysis of laboratory research studies and develop protocols and procedures. The position requires strong computer skills, attention to detail, strong interpersonal and time management skills. This is a grant-funded position and continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funds.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesConduct various cell biology and serology experiments including PCR, real-time PCR, RNA isolation, and primary cell cultures.Conduct molecular, biochemical, and cellular biology-based experiments.Conduct mouse experiments for testing toxicity and antiviral efficacy of compounds.Participate in new experimental procedures and designs.Prepare materials and equipment necessary for laboratory experiments.Perform data entry and analysis.Participate in the planning and development of general goals for the research project.May instruct lab personnel in special experimental procedures.Support sample collection and processing.Provide oversight of lab equipment.Manage lab supplies.Perform related duties as assigned.Preferred QualificationsExperience handling micro organisms, infectious agents and mouse experiments.Consistent work performance.Effective use of productive software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.).Experience in aseptic techniques and biological experiments.Bachelor's DegreeCompetenciesTime managementResource managementRecord keepingRisk managementCompensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.Equal Employment OpportunityThe University of Louisville is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
