Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) - Nurse Manager Medical-Surgical provides leadership, supervision, and direction to nursing staff. The incumbent improves performance indicators, patient satisfaction, safety, standards of care, and accreditation standards. Responsibilities include developing schedules, completing evaluations, reviewing work processes, identifying training needs, and contributing to excellence through interdisciplinary processes. Responsibilities Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to assistant nurse manager and front-line nursing staff Take action to improve or sustain performance indicators, customer service, patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, employee relations, standards of care and practice, work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards Develop schedules, complete performance evaluations, and facilitate performance and disciplinary actions when necessary Review work processes to improve efficiency, safety, and resource management Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and overall utilization on assigned unit Identify need for change of services or care delivery and participate in development of appropriate action plans Keep abreast of nursing trends, issues, and demographics while rewarding and recognizing unit staff Identify developmental and training needs of personnel and monitor, report, and record continuing education and training attendance records for assigned staff Provide or make provision for development and training to ensure compliance with education and competency appropriate to the unit Emulate servant leadership and Pathways to Excellence and High Reliability Organization (HRO) leadership characteristics VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 6:30 am - 3:00 pm, occasional off tour hours Telework: Ad-Hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
