AUTHORITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Required to successfully complete the US Department of Labor curriculum consisting of 576+ academic hours and 6000 hours of on-the-job learning (OJL).Must maintain an academic average with a minimum score of 70% and maintain a minimum performance assessment of 'meets standards.'Must perform corresponding job duties and responsibilities to the applicable trade positions over the course of the four-year apprenticeshipoTrades AssistantoB ClassoA ClassAssists or works with other trades or Austal USA employees as directed (May be assigned tasks outside craft as required)Commit to learning all aspects of the pipe welder trade:oLearn the different types of measurements in standard and metric increments.oLearn how to read, interpret, decipher, and navigate different ship drawings and blueprints.oLearn the different processes of welding for carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, nickel,and various other types of metals.oIdentify the proper welding filler material for carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, nickel,and various other types of metals.o Identification and the proper use of different fitting aids to aid welding pipespools.Practice safe working habits when using power tools and machineryMiscellaneous tasks as directed by supervisor or instructorQUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: To be considered qualified for a position as an apprentice, an individual must:- Possess the academic ability to succeed in the program- Demonstrate the motivation to continuously improve their knowledge/skills- Have the integrity to complete all assigned academic work independently- Demonstrate a high degree of reliability, both in task accomplishment and timekeeping.- Ability to measure using the metric and English system- Knowledge of shipyard terminology, such as general ship structure and vessel layout, is preferred.- The ability to understand directions and follow instructions, both oral and written- Demonstrate applied math skills equivalent ACT WorkKeys Level 3- Must have successfully completed a related technical training program or have the equivalent craft work experience
