DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The duties of this class involve routine manual work ingrounds maintenance activities. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher rankingemployee and assignments are outlined in detail and inspected periodically. The incumbent does related workas required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)Mows, rakes, and cuts grass;Keeps grounds free of litter;Removes snow and ice and spreads sand and salt on walks, pathways, drives, and parking lots;Fertilizes, seeds, and cultivates lawns and athletic fields;Participates in the preparation, lay out, and maintenance of athletic fields and other recreation areas;Operates trucks, mowers, tractors, or snow plows in performance of duties;Hauls and spreads top soil, gravel, and related groundskeeping materials;Plants and cares for trees, shrubs, and plants;Performs minor equipment maintenance of lawnmowers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, line strippers, etc.;Performs a variety of routine manual maintenance tasks.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Working knowledge of grounds maintenance activities;Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions;Willingness to perform manual work;Physical strength and endurance.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NoneSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If operation of a motor vehicle is required for this position, the candidate mustbe eligible for the appropriate level New York State drivers license. Possession of the license at the time ofappointment.
