Within the EVDD ecosystem, the Engine Controls organization plays a pivotal role in powering Fordu2019s electrified lineup. We are responsible for the intelligent control systems behind our Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles, ensuring that the internal combustion engine operates in perfect harmony with electric propulsion. In this role, you will write the code that optimizes this synergy, delivering the seamless efficiency, range, and performance that our electrified customers demand. An Engine Control Software Engineer (Ignition) will create, implement, and validate the software algorithms that control the heart of the powertrain: the internal combustion engine. The controls and software include critical spark-related components, fuel ignition management, and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) monitoring. Attention to detail is key, as an engine control developer must deliver clean, understandable code that ensures optimal engine performance, emissions compliance, and drivability. As a member of the Powertrain Controls Software Team, you will join a vibrant group of individuals who work in collaboration with a wide range of teams across departments and engage in developing simple, robust solutions to deliver Fordu2019s next generation vehicles. What you'll do... + Engine Control Development: Write the engine control system software for spark-related software components, ensuring precise timing and combustion stability. + Deep-Dive Analysis: Become an engine controls expert, getting into the nitty-gritty of fuel ignition, Minimum Spark Advance for Best Torque (MBT) calculation, and cold-start emissions reduction monitoring. + OBD Leadership: Act as the subsystem engineer for OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) monitors, ensuring robust detection of system anomalies and compliance with regulatory standards. + Implementation & Validation: Translate system-level requirements into software design, then implement and validate the controls' algorithm in C-code or Model Based Software depending on the component. + Testing: Complete testing of software changes in unit-test, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and/or Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) testing environments. + Documentation: Maintain software description documentation, calibration guides, install guides, and release notes for each software release. You'll have.. . + B.S. degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related Degree ; or foreign equivalency degree, or a combination of equivalent experience and education. + 1+ years experience in C and MATLAB/Simulink Software Development in Powertrain Even better, you may have... + M.S. degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, related Degree. + Experience with ICE/Hybrid Engine Controls. + Deep understanding of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) physics and thermodynamics. + Experience with OBDII monitor development and regulatory requirements. + Experience with Jira, Jama, Unity/Ceedling, GitHub and/or ClearCase. + Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). + 5+ years of experience with embedded control software and design experience.
