Summary The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant in the Business Office for the Memphis VA Medical Center and will provide support to the Inpatient Ward, Emergency Room, Baggage Claims, Environmental Care and Call Center. These positions are part of an integral team used to carry out the day-to-day administrative operations of the assigned location. Responsibilities This is an Open Continuous Announcement until September 30, 2026. The initial cut-off-date for referral eligible applications will be a March 2,2026. VA Careers - Medical Support Assistant: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Medical Support Assistant performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines, scheduling, cancelling, re-scheduling patients appointments and/or consults. Entering no-show information, Preparing for clinic visits. Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibilities. Verifying encounters forms are completed by the appropriate clinic staff in order to obtain appropriate workload credit. Verifying and updating demographics and insurance information. Performs basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage. Encourages and supports enrollment/authentication of Veterans in MyHealthy vet Program. Assists with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointments times, locations, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and or coverage occurs. Communicates the VA's mandate to collect insurance information from Veterans, and their families, and other eligible patients. Work Schedule: Multiple tours of duty available.Available tours will be discussed at the interview. Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: May be approved on an a-hoc basis at the discretion of the supervisor.
