Network Engineer

Description The primary focus of the position is supporting the campus network. However the engineer will be part of the enterprise network team and may be working tickets for anywhere in the enterprise. The engineer will also be in the on-call rotation which has about 20 people in it. They will be secondary 1 week and then primary 1 week. The technology stack is primarily Cisco catalyst and ISR's with some ACI. We do have Juniper in the core as well. Knowledge of BGP, OSPF is required. There are hardware refreshes that happen every year as gear is phased out/replaced -- How much depends on funding the agency has. While it doesn't require cloud networking, it would be beneficial. The client is moving toward Cisco SD-WAN so knowledge there is a plus. We use ServiceNow and SolarWinds. Scripting isn't required but we are moving toward automation for as much as possible so knowledge of those would be helpful. Job Responsibilities: u2022 Adjust network sizes to meet volume or capacity demands. u2022 Communicate with customers, sales staff, or marketing staff to determine customer needs. u2022 Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs or upgrades. u2022 Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems. u2022 Determine specific network hardware or software requirements such as platforms, interfaces, bandwidths, or routine schemas. u2022 Develop and implement solutions for network problems. u2022 Develop conceptual, logical or physical network designs. Skills: u2022 Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills. u2022 Ability to work independently and manage oneu2019s time. u2022 Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback. u2022 Knowledge of computer hardware as it relates to data storage. u2022 Knowledge of computer software, such as configuration management software, desktop communications software, operating system software and internet directory services software.
