ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Patient Care Technician to support our Medical Stepdown Unit at the McCandless location. The Patient Care Technician is a valued step in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience. Our Full-Time PCTs typically work 36 hours each week to cover daylight, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Hours may vary by unit. Candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply. Hired candidates will be required to attend Full-Time orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role. Responsibilities: u00b7 Suggests and supports changes within the department. u00b7 Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges. u00b7 Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department. u00b7 Supports department-based projects and quality initiatives. u00b7 Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients. PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs), clean catch/mini catheter urine collection. In addition, simple dressings, 12 lead EKG, bladder scan, all specimen collections. All competencies must be achieved. u00b7 Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department. u00b7 Establishes appropriate and effective communication with other departments. u00b7 Establishes professional and respectful interpersonal relationships. u00b7 Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients. u00b7 Constructively receives feedback and direction. u00b7 Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director. u00b7 Takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance. u00b7 Requestu2019s assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed. u00b7 Participates in self-review as requested by the unit director. u00b7 Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team. u00b7 Demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions. u00b7 Cares for patients and self by supporting safety in the workplace. u00b7 Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to patients and colleagues. u00b7 Provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living. u00b7 Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. u00b7 Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes inpatient status. u00b7 Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. u00b7 May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol. u00b7 Strictly adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information. u00b7 Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions. u00b7 Documents in the medical record according to established procedures. u00b7 Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner. u00b7 Completes department clerical functions as needed. u00b7 Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. u00b7 Performs other duties as assigned. They are not exhaustive lists of all duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities and working conditions associated with the job. u00b7 High school diploma or equivalent. u00b7 Must also have either 1 Year of Experience, OR enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR completion of a bacheloru2019s degree in a health sciences field. u00b7 Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class u00b7 Successful completion of basic information system training. u00b7 Microcomputer experience preferred. u00b7 Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. u00b7 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred. u00b7 Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
