Description Purpose As our Regional Instrument Technician, you will execute principal responsibilities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our continuous chemical manufacturing process in accordance with local and national regulations and standards. Principal Responsibilities: Safety u2022 Understand and adhere to company safe work policies. u2022 Contribute to the improvement of the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality programs. u2022 Follow Lone Worker Requirements u2022 Contribute to the improvement of the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality programs. u2022 Apply the hazardous work permit (HWP) process, lockout-tagout (LOTO) and energy isolation procedures as required for company and contractor personnel. u2022 Follow management of change (MOC) procedures for all changes to equipment, process, and operating procedures. u2022 Direct and monitor contractors. u2022 Lead and participate in operations, maintenance, and safety meetings. u2022 Participate in safety committee activities as required. u2022 Establish a culture of safety in working with regional staff and contractors in the execution of all aspects of the role requirements. u2022 Ensure regional l&E staff are trained with Messer safe work standards. Reliability and Maintenance u2022 Follow work instructions and annotate with feedback. u2022 Set up and safely operate all tools and equipment necessary when performing work. u2022 Ensure correct and comprehensive preventative maintenance job plan coverage for plants in the region. o Assign and/or execute instrumentation and controls maintenance. o Ensure proper use of the system including comprehensive recording of data and close out of system work-orders. o Assist in improving plant work instructions and/or job plans. o Maintain and document calibration of regional metrological equipment. u2022 Provide regular in-person support for regional sites without a local l&E technician. u2022 Lead l&E teams for all major outages and turnarounds in the region. u2022 Install, modify, or replace instrumentation and control systems in regional plants including local initiatives up to and including major maintenance turnaround activities. u2022 Support the procurement and staging of necessary services and materials. u2022 Support related EMOC and necessary permitting and approvals with plant and regional staff and/or supervise the installation using regional staff or contractors. u2022 Effectively identify issues and troubleshoot and repair instrumentation and control systems. u2022 Assist the commissioning work and installations including the production of necessary records and as-built drawings. u2022 Maintain regular dialogue with the Regional and Central Lead Instrumentation Engineers. u2022 Maintain regular communications with the Directors and instrumentation/control staff. u2022 Diagnose, communicate, and execute corrections and/or provide sufficient direction to plant staff to resolve problems. u2022 Identify and lead and/or support instrumentation initiatives in the Region. u2022 Understand the condition of regional assets from an instrumentation and controls perspective: o Instrumentation and controls obsolescence o Identify degradation and reliability risks. u2022 Support specifications and procurement for regional l&E spares. u2022 Input scope to commercial evaluations such as plant re-lifes, upgrades, relocations, and roll out of new technologies and under the direction of the Regional Instrumentation Engineer. u2022 Perform advanced troubleshooting of instrumentation and control valves. u2022 Calibrate, configure, and/or replace field instrumentation devices. u2022 Install, commission, and troubleshoot control valves. u2022 Assist Regional Controls Engineer with advanced troubleshooting of process control systems. u2022 Functionally test or troubleshoot instrument or electrical control loops through field devices to verify proper operation. u2022 Electrical (Once Certified}: u2022 Perform advanced troubleshooting of electrical systems with the support of the Regional Electrical Engineer. u2022 Repair electrical equipment control circuits. u2022 Develop and oversee the implementation of standardized documentation filing practices for l&E equipment and projects in the region. Work with the Central Lead Instrumentation Engineer to promote standardization throughout the fleet. u2022 Provide executive summaries of instrumentation-related shutdowns to the regional director as needed. Process Operation and Efficiency u2022 Assist with shutdowns, start-ups, and de-rimes for plant(s} in region. u2022 Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS}(SAP}. u2022 Support troubleshooting of process problems to identify equipment requiring maintenance. u2022 Document activities and data in SAP system. u2022 Accept on-call duty and overtime as required. People Development / Interpersonal u2022 Maintain open line of communication with manager and other stakeholders. u2022 Support new employees and entry-level technicians through coaching and mentoring. u2022 Assign work that stretches and develops instrumentation technicians based on job requirements and development needs. u2022 Support sites outside of the home region when possible. u2022 Develop and administer instrumentation technician training through scheduling and facilitation of regular l&E remote training sessions and in-person training classes. u2022 Ensure l&E technicians perform work using Messer best practices. Required Skills: u2022 Math - Basic algebra, fractions/percentages, unit conversion. u2022 Personal computer proficiency. u2022 Strong interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy. u2022 Ability to work alone. u2022 High mechanical aptitude and ability to work with simple mechanic's hand tools. u2022 Intermediate knowledge of chemical manufacturing hazards. u2022 Familiarity with common process equipment and their functions. u2022 Understanding of basic electrical hazards and safety. Intermediate to Advanced skills in troubleshooting electrical systems, with support from subject matter experts. u2022 Instrumentation: Ability to troubleshoot industrial instrumentation and control systems including 4-20 mA transmitters, electro-pneumatic control loops, and electrically/pneumatically actuated control valves. u2022 Ability to interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs and PFDs. u2022 Able to navigate a document management system to find relevant work instructions, forms, and supporting documentation. u2022 Ability to complete advanced preventive maintenance tasks according to best practices. u2022 Ability to produce training materials that effectively communicate knowledge and concepts of instrumentation including reference documents, slides, and hands-on experiences. u2022 Capable of operating a forklift, and/or overhead crane, and/or man lift. u2022 Electrical: Ability to interpret electrical drawings including single-line diagrams. u2022 Understanding of trip and interlock logic protecting people and equipment. Basic Qualifications: u2022 Thirteen (13) years of relevant experience in a related process plant operations, maintenance or reliability activity, or recent military service in a technical field. u2022 Certified to ISA Level Ill to qualify for instrumentation skills requirement. u2022 Certificate in a technical discipline, two-year related degree or recent military training in a technical field will be considered in lieu of ISA Level 3 certification. u2022 Three (3) years of experience training/mentoring/instructing in instrumentation. u2022 The job requirement is to obtain your ISA Level 3 certification within two years. Other Qualifications: u2022 Physically able to perform all duties required which may involve among other things; bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs. u2022 Ability to climb to heights 200 ft above grade and work effectively. u2022 Reside within a reasonable distance of a plant. u2022 Ability to travel up to 90%. u2022 Valid driver's license with a good record. u2022 Capable of distinguishing different colors.
