Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Responsibilities Functions to deliver and coordinate safe, efficient, and effective patient care throughout all areas of the facility. Provides care and directs others in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems. Executes medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise authorized provider. The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community and the facility. Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) Registered Nurse (RN) incorporates position responsibilities and creative approaches to the management of patient care. The NOD communicates the ability to organize the delivery of care to assure continuity of care for practice, including access to care and discharge planning. The NOD communicates clinical knowledge and judgment to promote self-involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. They possess knowledge of basic clinical practice to the assigned roles and responsibilities. Aware of evidence-based practices to improve outcomes for patients and/or departmental processes. Collaborates with staff as a team member to incorporate professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. The NOD is a novice nurse who seeks knowledge in leadership at the unit level that is sustainable, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex situations. The NOD assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for managing and directing employees, staffing units, and allocating resources as necessary during weekends, holidays, and after-hours tours during the absence of nursing management/leadership. The NOD is responsible for rounding and is a consultant to providers. Collaborates with the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) and other members of the interdisciplinary team as needed for decisions related to on-going patient care and actions taken in emergency situations and disasters. The NOD provides programmatic outcomes to nursing leadership to assist with improving organizational processes and the delivery of patient care.
