Patient Care Technician - Same Day Surgery

Sentara Healthcare is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work on the Same Day Surgery Unit at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, located in Virginia Beach.Hours/Shift:FLEXI (as needed) dayshift. Hours will fall Mon-Fri dayshift as needed. Department/Position Overview: This position will mostly be in the PreOp and Phase II area of our same day surgery unit. The main roles will be triaging patients for surgery, helping patients get dressed after surgery, taking out IVs, ambulating patients to the restroom/bedpans, taking patients out to meet their drivers at their vehicle, cleaning stretchers and rooms. We are looking for someone that is interested in this fast-paced, non-traditional role.Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.CLICK HERE to hear McKenzie tell us about a day in the life of a Patient Care Technician with Sentara.EducationHigh School Diploma or EquivalentCertification/LicensureAmerican Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.Minimum requirements: Must have one of the followingSentara Care Partner Certification Program, orSuccessful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), orNational Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), orNational Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), orCompletion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, orEmergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, orCurrent student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, orCurrent work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.ExperienceOne year of prior health care experience preferred.
