This is a 36-bed medical-surgical & telemetry unit with a subpopulation of oncology, chemotherapy, and end-of-life care. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.Transition to Practice/Nurse Residency ProgramThis 10-week TTP program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in Medical-Surgical areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.Program includes:Formal delivery of fundamental nursing concepts and standards with in-person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skills labsExposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelinesHands-on experience alongside a trained nurse preceptorOpportunity to share your experiences/ networking with peers in a safe, protected environmentA series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses)
