Title: Mechanical EngineerLocation: Santa Clara, CA Duration: 06+ Months Payrate: $45-75/hour on W2 + Benefits The Systems Technology Group within Client Sequencing Solutions develops core technologies that advance DNA sequencing workflows. We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and characterization of next-generation sequencing systems. This is a hands-on, highly technical role focused on solving critical mechanical challenges in electro-mechanical, pneumatic, thermal, and fluidic subsystems. You will design, build, and test Client mechanisms that ensure performance, reliability, and longevity of sequencing platforms while working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities Lead end-to-end design of electro-mechanical, pneumatic, fluidic, and thermal subsystems Design automated mechanisms for reagent and flow cell loading, clamping, and sealing Architect precision thermal control systems and manage heat and condensation Define and manage technical interfaces across mechanical, electrical, consumables, and materials teams Guide CFD/thermal/optical simulations and validate designs with empirical data Serve as technical owner during integration, verification, and troubleshooting Lead cross-functional design reviews and resolve technical trade-offs Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and specifications Contribute to system architecture and future technology strategy Present technical progress and design rationale to stakeholders A cover letter is required outlining relevant experience and interest in Client. Required Qualifications PhD + 5 years, MS + 10 years, or BS + 10+ years in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field Hands-on experience designing complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems (life sciences preferred) Expertise in thermal management, precision temperature control, and fluidics systems Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and manufacturing processes Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and chemistry interfaces Experience with machine shops, rapid prototyping, and test equipment Proficiency in Python, LabVIEW, or similar tools Preferred Technical leadership and mentoring experience CFD/FEA simulation experience NGS or genomics instrumentation background Experience in regulated product development Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
