Summary Informatics Clinical Applications Coordinator- RN exercises leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of hardware and software applications integrated with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated programs/applications. The lnformaticist collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility/practice setting and network. Responsibilities Preferred Experience: Working at a VA Healthcare System for at least the last 5 years. Major Duties: The lnformaticist will assist in directing the provision of education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. The incumbent works independently to manage training courses pertaining to Clinical Informatics, the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and other related health information systems. Training responsibilities may include recurring sessions for New Employee Orientation (NEO), basic and advanced EHR training, medical student, resident, fellow, and attending onboarding training, as well as ad-hoc sessions for EHR upgrades or features, and 3rd party systems. For the primary recurrent courses, the incumbent will be responsible for development of curricula, evaluation and assessment of knowledge, and development and implementation of evaluation and improvements to the courses. The Incumbent is also responsible for coordination of training, such as scheduling and attendance records. Close working relationships must be maintained with all services/programs to ensure compliance with accrediting body guidelines, VHA directives, and local medical center policies as they relate to proper medical record documentation as related to the use of technology within the purview of the facility EHR and related health information systems. Additionally, the incumbent will actively participate in the development of clinical decision support systems with various stakeholders, both internally and externally, as well as others that may be decided locally. Maintains state of the art knowledge of changes in technology and the clinical environment to identify, propose, formulate, and support new or revised major administrative and clinical directives for clinical software packages in accordance with VHA regulations. Provides expertise in the design of decision support tools that improve healthcare efficiency, effectiveness, and safety. Further, the incumbent will act as a Health Informatics expert, providing integration of software applications for clinical services by: Evaluating the unique needs of the specific clinical services in conjunction with the capabilities of the software and coordinating any required modifications Reviewing the effectiveness of the systems and procedures to assure optimum benefit to patient care activities. Troubleshooting when functionality is compromised by determining the cause of and/or the solution to the problem. The incumbent, as a recognized expert in Health Informatics, guides the evolution of clinical software and processes using creative and well-developed interpersonal skills to achieve effective communication with end users, Office of Information and Technology (OIT), and management. Works in collaboration with technical, clinical, and administrative staff to develop system requirements while understanding system capabilities and limitations.
