Why This Role? + No holidays/weekends + Flexible schedule + Supportive Team Culture in a Leading Maxillofacial Clinic Setting What You'll Do Your Role & Impact: + Under the direct control and supervision of a licensed dentist: + Performs rooming and/or intake process, collecting and data, including vital signs, height, weight, and data related to dental patientu2019s reason for visit. + Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history. + Reviews patientu2019s current medication list, allergies and preferred pharmacy. + Take and process x-rays of patients. + Assists the licensed dentist as directed, during treatments, examinations and procedures in the inpatient, outpatient, and operating room setting. + Removing sutures. + Taking impressions for study models and opposing casts that may be used for construction of temporary or permanent dental appliances, adjustable orthodontic appliances, nightguards and the repair of dentures or partials. + Ensures exam/procedure room contains appropriate supplies, equipment, forms and educational materials are available and ready for use during visit/procedure. + Provides patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed by the licensed dentist. + Prepares, cleans, stocks and maintains exam and treatment rooms. + Prepares instruments for reprocessing. + Responds to patient, clinical, and operational concerns timely and effectively. + Assists with dental patient registration, check in/check out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals. + Answers clinic telephone and assists in-basket under the direction of the licensed dentist. + Assists in emergency situations in line with BLS standards and as directed by the licensed dentist. What We're Looking For What Youu2019ll Need: + Education : High School Diploma or GED, required. Successfully complete CODA-accredited dental assisting program or one academic year or longer in a CODA-accredited dental hygiene program OR Completion of a dental assistant program offered through a branch of the U.S. armed forces at the Medical Education & Training Campus that includes a clinical rotation providing dental assisting for live patients OR Pass the national DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) exam OR Complete full-time employment as a DA I for 2 years of the preceding 5, consisting of at least 3,000 total and complete a 3-hour course in dental office emergencies and complete a 3-hour course in sterilization and infection control and, after completing these courses and CPR certification, receive training in any dental delivery setting and perform the functions of a DA II under the direct control and supervision of a licensed dentist, required. + Experience : Possess at least two years of full-time experience as a Dental Assistant II, required. Possession of at least three years of full-time Dental Assistant experience, preferred. + Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association at the time of hire. If the selected candidate does not possess BLS, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, required. + Additional Skills (required): NC State Board of Dental Examiners X-ray certification. Coronal polishing and Dental Sealant certification. Completion of a NC Board-approved seven-hour course in nitrous oxide-oxygen conscious sedation. + Additional Skills (preferred): Training as a Dental Assistant II, preferably through a year-long Dental Assisting program.
