Summary This position is located in Nursing Service Geriatrics Extended Care unit at the Alvin C. York VA in Murfreesboro, TN. Responsibilities RN Administrative Pay Scale NG 60 The Chief Nurse of GEC Specialty provides senior leadership and oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within Nursing Service, Geriatrics and Extended Care department t as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS). Functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. Supports the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. They champion a High Reliability Organization (HRO) of safety founded on a systems approach to developing evidence-based health care solutions based on prevention, not punishment, with collective mindfulness. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. They work closely to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of Veteran Affairs (VA) staff nationwide. Relates effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. They assist the ADPCS with healthcare operations and the functions and activities expected of them. Contributes ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing. The Chief Nurse is responsible for ensuring appropriate nursing practice in the delivery of nursing care to Veteran patients and managing staffing resources as first or second line supervisor within the GEC/Community Living Center (CLC) Specialty Areas of 8A and 8B Geriatric-Mental Health/Dementia units, Admission Coordination, Restorative Nursing, and RAI/MDS Nursing program at the Alvin C. York Campus and Wound Care services throughout the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. Provides executive leadership and direct supervision to the Nurse Managers. A major component of the position involves collaboration with and providing leadership for other health professionals in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive rehabilitation and community living center care programs. Strategically aligns programmatic operations to mirror evidence-based procedures and processes across the enterprise, ascribing to strong corporate function/leadership, business acumen, and regulatory compliance. She/he collaborates with respective Service Chiefs to develop goals and objectives that support the strategic plan, meet the needs of Veteran patients, satisfy staff, and result in positive clinical and administrative outcomes. Reports directly to the Deputy ADPCS and covers in his/her absence as designated.
