Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: The LPN is assigned to the GI/Hepatology Clinics. The clinics provide outpatient and inpatient endoscopy, gastroenterology and hepatology care. The LPN is responsible for assisting with patient assessments, treatments, planning and coordination of care that facilitates in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders. Duties include but are not limited to: Organizes/prioritizes clinical specific activities. Accurately documents and retrieves patient/clinical information using CPRS. Recognizes significant changes in the patient; recognizes urgent or emergent patient care situations. Provides effective education to patients and/or family members in relation to common GI disease processes, medications and/or prescribed diagnostic and/or treatment regimes. Monitors, reports, participates in selected aspects of: colonoscopy, EGD, EUS, ERCP, Sigmoidoscopy, percutaneous liver biopsy and paracentesis. Demonstrates basic knowledge and ability to provide practical nursing care to Veteran patients within the Nursing Service Line and provides outpatient care for Veterans with a variety of health disorders with age ranges from young adult to geriatric. The LPN supports various outpatient clinics located on the Seattle Campus of VA Puget Sound as well as case management of patients. The applicant uses beginner problem solving to assist with complex stent removals, injection of MMC via nephrostomy tube, doing a catheter over wire procedures, assisting with management of post procedure bleeding, assisting providers during prostate biopsy, collecting/labeling specimens, logging specimens and tracking results. Informs patients of normal test results as directed by and under the supervision of the providers. At the beginner level, ensures clinics are ready for the day and that patients have had necessary UA's, labs and imaging prior to their clinic appointments to ensure time is used efficiently in clinic. Observes and reports changes in patients' condition, administers medications and documents this care in the medical record. Functions as an integral member of the health care team. Works with consistent support and supervision with completion of work requiring routine or higher-level review. LPN is expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license and will develop advanced skills in demonstrating good judgement, effective problem solving, organization and planning and leading group activities. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by the VA.
