Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Responsibilities GENERAL CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Cardiovascular Surgeon is authorized to admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiovascular disease; perform histories and physical examinations; interpret cardiovascular diagnostic studies; provide operative and perioperative cardiac surgical care; participate in multidisciplinary heart team activities; supervise trainees and allied health professionals as appropriate; participate in quality improvement, peer review, and patient safety activities; and provide emergency cardiovascular surgical care within the scope of licensure and granted privileges. CARDIOVASCULAR SURGICAL SCOPE The Cardiovascular Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical care for cardiovascular conditions, including open, minimally invasive, and transcatheter cardiac procedures as approved through the Medical Staff credentialing and privileging process. Coronary artery bypass grafting including multi-arterial grafting, aortic / mitral / tricuspid valve repair or replacement, aortic root and ascending / arch aneurysm surgery including that requiring deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, arrhythmia surgery including radio frequency and cryoablative procedures, and percutaneous structural heart / endovascular procedures to include TAVR, TMVR, and TEVAR. Although part of a multidisciplinary intensive care unit, surgeons maintain the primary responsibility for postoperative critical care. EMERGENCY CARE In accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws, the Cardiovascular Surgeon may provide emergency care to preserve life or prevent serious harm within the scope of licensure when clinically indicated. COMPLIANCE & OVERSIGHT Practice under this scope is subject to ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE), focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) as applicable, and compliance with all VHA directives, Medical Staff Bylaws, and facility policies. Contact, the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance Salary: $375,000.00 to $400,000.00 / Per Year, Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). With potential for Supplementation by Academic Affiliate if meets qualification. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM Compressed Schedule: Available - To Be Determined by Hiring Manager Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
