Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities GENERAL CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Cardiovascular Surgeon is authorized to admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiovascular disease; perform histories and physical examinations; interpret cardiovascular diagnostic studies; provide operative and perioperative cardiac surgical care; participate in multidisciplinary heart team activities; supervise trainees and allied health professionals as appropriate; participate in quality improvement, peer review, and patient safety activities; and provide emergency cardiovascular surgical care within the scope of licensure and granted privileges. CARDIOVASCULAR SURGICAL SCOPE The Cardiovascular Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical care for cardiovascular conditions, including open, minimally invasive, and transcatheter cardiac procedures as approved through the Medical Staff credentialing and privileging process. Coronary artery bypass grafting including multi-arterial grafting, aortic / mitral / tricuspid valve repair or replacement, aortic root and ascending / arch aneurysm surgery including that requiring deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, arrhythmia surgery including radio frequency and cryoablative procedures, and percutaneous structural heart / endovascular procedures to include TAVR, TMVR, and TEVAR. Although part of a multidisciplinary intensive care unit, surgeons maintain the primary responsibility for postoperative critical care. EMERGENCY CARE In accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws, the Cardiovascular Surgeon may provide emergency care to preserve life or prevent serious harm within the scope of licensure when clinically indicated. COMPLIANCE & OVERSIGHT Practice under this scope is subject to ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE), focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) as applicable, and compliance with all VHA directives, Medical Staff Bylaws, and facility policies. Contact, the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance Salary: $375,000.00 to $400,000.00 / Per Year, Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). With potential for Supplementation by Academic Affiliate if meets qualification.
