Supervisor, Craft Crew (Surface Finishing) Job ID: 260116 Location: DC - McPherson Square Full/Part Time: Full-Time Posting Open-Close 02/06/2026 - 03/02/2026 Union NRP Regular/Temporary: Regular Job Description MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education + High school diploma or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) Experience + Four (4) years of technical work experience in surface finishing. Preferred + Some supervisory and or leadman experience preferred Certification/Licensure + Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's permit Medical Group Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations. Mission Essential Designation: + In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authorityu2019s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events. Summary The Supervisor, Craft Crew u2013 Surface Finishing oversees work related to the inspection, repair renovation, restoration/refinishing of various types of surface painting. The incumbent supervises a crew of Surface Finishers who perform painting for facilities throughout the Metro system. This technical work calls for experience in surface painting work on materials such as wood, metal, glass, synthetics, concrete, and any surfaces requiring finishing by brush, roller, and spray guns, using paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac, epoxy resin, Teflon, and chemicals; includes the repair of drywall, stucco, and plaster. Essential Functions + Supervises employees who perform surface finishing work. Supervises and develops schedules for inspection, preventive, corrective and maintenance. Conducts daily toolbox meetings, develops job specific safety plans, performs safety audits and safety conversations. Participates as a member of a Local Safety Committee and performs incident investigations. Reviews maintenance processes and procedures from a safety perspective and recommends improvements. + Supervises subordinate staff, recommends applicant selection, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolution. Assigns duties, directs work, and approves leave requests and time sheets. Performs on-site quality inspections and monitors work performed by contractors and internal staff; ensures compliance with established standards. Acts as site supervisor or coordinator to interact with and support other maintenance and operations functions. Analyzes work volume, staffing requirements and recommends measures to enhance performance and productivity. + Trains employees using applicable technical data, tools, precision measuring equipment, special equipment, test instrumentation, corrective maintenance programs and procedures. Provides instruction on safety and environmental requirements and methods to minimize at-risk behaviors, avoid injuries and property damage. Teaches techniques for identifying and correcting safety hazards. Enforces compliance with personal protective equipment requirements and the roadway worker protection program. + Purchases materials, parts and tools. Ensures their proper use, care and security. Complies with established procurement policies and procedures. + Prepares and completes accurate oral, written, and electronic reports and documentation; ensures easy retrieval of information for statistical and management purposes. + Supports severe weather and other emergency response efforts, provides immediate maintenance support to protect assets. + OTHER FUNCTIONS + Accurately maintains the Authorityu2019s Maintenance Management database. Enters work performance data, monitors work orders and backlog, assesses equipment performance trends, and predicts future maintenance requirements. + Attends and passes the required safety training classes and continuously maintains current knowledge of industry best practices. Ensures subordinates pass required training, maintain their required certifications and that they perform assignments according to established safety practices and maintenance guidelines.
