Engagement (80%) Work with University leadership, students, faculty and staff to strategically design, develop, implement and evaluate outreach opportunities Foster and develop teamwork that builds a partnership between the department and stakeholders Conduct a variety of presentations to University stakeholders with audiences varying between 2 - 400 people Facilitate outreach events and staff resource tables to promote the department and increase the visibility of the department in the community Work with social media content and slide productions; planning and composing brochures, flyers, social media graphics, and other communications documents as assigned. Work with the Director and team members to develop an overall communication/engagement plan for outreach activities that support the goals of the department Work with a variety of student groups, faculty, and staff and be able to communicate with traditionally underrepresented groups in safety discussions Other Duties (20%) Complete additional projects as requested by the Director of Community Engagement and DPS Facilitate discussions and problem-solving sessions related to the community and University concerns Additional responsibilities Works under the Director of Community Engagement Able to work a flexible schedule some weekends and weeknights required Be able to lift 40 lbs, stand for long periods of time, be able to set up folding tent and other equipment at resource table events Comfortable driving University fleet vehicles Assist with the daily operations of the DPS Off Campus Safety Center, which includes staffing the front desk at least one day week and working scheduled engagement events Qualifications Qualifications BA/BS plus at least 4 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years Knowledge, understanding, and willingness to learn and educate about important current issues, whether cultural or sociopolitical in nature Knowledge, understanding, and willingness to learn about all aspects of working with and engaging UMPD officers and DPS staff Organizational talent, including attention to detail and commitment to on-going safety education Previous experience working with law enforcement Be able to work independently and under supervision Be able to pass a public safety background check and finger print review Must possess a MN valid driver's License Efficient and effective project management skills to be able to work on multiple projects and prioritize Preferred Qualifications Conducted community engagement activities Public speaking Subject knowledge of: Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Crime Prevention, Threat Assessments, Premise Surveys and/or Active Threat prevention and response Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $31-$35/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience Time Appointment: 100%Appointment Position Type:Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff Please visit the Office of Human Resources website for more information regarding benefit eligibility.
