Join us as a Youth Activity Assistant Instructor- Sailing In this exciting and active role, youu2019ll assist the lead instructor in teaching youth and families (ages 12+) the fundamentals of sailing. From learning boat terminology and water safety to practicing maneuvering techniques on open, flat water, youu2019ll help create a supportive and engaging environment where participants can build skills and confidence. Work is performed in a class setting and takes place both indoors and outdoorsu2014on the dock and out on the water. Youu2019ll play a key role in ensuring lessons run smoothly, participants stay safe, and everyone has a positive and memorable experience. This position is open to applicants age 16 and older. If you enjoy being outdoors, working as part of a team, and helping others discover a love for sailing, this is the perfect opportunity to make waves this season Essential Functions + Ensures the well-being and safety of program participants. + Works with instructor and supervisor to prepare materials and supplies for class. + Works with instructor to respond to behavioral and emergency concerns. + Makes sure sailing equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies instructor when items need repair or replacement. + A key part of every employeeu2019s job is to serve as a City of Boise ambassador engaging with participants, families, and the general public at every opportunity. + Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training Requires education and/or experience to attain the following: + 16 years or older. + Ability to deal with individuals in a friendly and tactful manner. + Work varied hours including evenings and weekends. + Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations. + Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance. + Complete assignments in a timely fashion. + Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations. + Maintain prompt and regular attendance. + Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation. Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training + One year experience working with youths from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Three yearsu2019 experience with the sport of sailing and power boating. + US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor Certification. + First Aid & CPR Certification. + National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Certification for Idaho. + SafeSport Training Certification. Special Requirements Applicants must be able to pass: + City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation + Drug Free Workplace: + In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Working Conditions The physical effort characteristics and working environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand and walk. Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures and in wet and humid conditions. 19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits. 4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment. 8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage. 9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
