Summary The incumbent's principal responsibilities are to perform Computerized Transaxial scan procedures (CT or CAT scans) exams for the patients and is part of the group of DRTS at the Minneapolis, MN VA Health Care System. Responsibilities This occupational series may be eligible for the Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). Repayment is limited to $40,000 annually, up to $100,000 in lifetime awards. Participants must sign a three-year service agreement and maintain an acceptable level of performance to remain eligible for this program. Contact for more information. VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but are not limited to the following: CT examinations of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, head, extremities, neck, etc. The incumbent will also assist the radiologist in performing interventional procedures under CT guidance and all general imaging exams. Transfer patients from stretcher or wheelchair to radiographic table- Prepare room, equipment and material needed for patient procedures Prepares oral and injectable contrast and other chemical mixtures as necessary Follow prescribed protocols required to perform procedures Observes patients during procedures and reports complications or unusual events Perform computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, credit of patient visits, complications and /or quality improvement activities of the Radiology Department. Performs daily maintenance of head and body phantoms, such as changing water, cleaning and removing air bubbles, etc. Administer contrast material, under the direction of the radiologist, according to protocols. Check and make minor adjustments to equipment such as setting wedges, or changing adjusters Maximize patient throughput by contacts with escort, ward secretaries, nursing personnel, etc. Maintain a clean work area and adequate level of supplies within their assigned rooms at all times Provide training to student radiographers and residents from affiliated programs and facilitates the attainment of established program objectives Practice hospital safety, radiation safety, infection control and universal precautions at all times in accordance with age and/or gender specific departmental procedures The incumbent is responsible for the quality assurance of the image(positioning/label/technique/network information) prior to transmission to the PAC's network. The incumbent assists house staff in use of Auto Rad system and can also digitize films for the network and/or transmission to off site locations. The incumbent maintains workstations as directed by the manufacturer. Provide education to patients and their families on Imaging procedures - clerical and file room duties related to patient care Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Friday-Monday 7:00pm to 7:00am and every other Thursday 3:30pm to 12:00 am (midnight); on call; some holiday Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): May be Authorized to highly qualified candidates Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
