Public Affairs Officer (USAO - Miami)Location:99 NE 4th Street, Miami, FL 33132Status:Full-TimePosition Summary:This position is responsible for Public Affairs and media communications support to assist Government personnel in fulfilling Department of Justice (DOJ) public information, victim/public safety, and media-related responsibilities. The Public Affairs Officer will provide drafting, research, coordination, bilingual communication support, digital content development, and advisory functions, while final release, approval, and delivery of all official public communications will remain reserved to designated Government employees of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Southern District of Florida.This position is in support of a contract for which we are bidding with the USAO. Any offer of employment will be contingent on contract award.Required Qualifications:- Experience in federal agency communications- Experience drafting media materials for public dissemination- Familiarity with crisis communications- Bilingual English/Spanish drafting proficiency- Ability to prepare communications for politically sensitive matters- Familiarity with national and international media audiences- Candidates must be able to obtain/maintain a DOJ clearance- S. citizenship is required- The ability to pass a drug test is requiredEssential Functions:Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Drafting and Content Development- Draft press releases, background materials, communications plans, QandA, talking points, quotes and digital content for Government review and approval.- Prepare briefing materials for USAO leadership engagements.Media Coordination Support- Track media inquiries, compile background information, prepare draft responses, and support Government personnel in coordinating interview logistics.- The Contractor shall not provide official statements or represent the Government to media.- Monitors local media reports for coverage of USAO and law enforcement topics.- Works with the DOJ Office of Public Affairs to prepare public service announcements and assist USAO personnel in coordinating national and local messaging.- Review USAO media relations program and makes recommendations to the U.S. Attorney to better achieve the goal of increasing understanding of the USAO mission, goals and objectives.Spanish-Language Communications Support- Fluent Spanish Required.Digital Communications Support- Draft content for DOJ-approved platforms.- Assist in preparation of multimedia products for Government dissemination.- Assist USAO personnel in responding to press inquiries and communicates office events to news media.Event and Stakeholder Support- Assist in planning, preparing materials for, and coordinating public events, press conferences, meetings, background materials and briefings.- Contractor support is advisory and preparatory only.Advisory and Strategic Communications Support- Provide strategic communications recommendations, research, and comparative analysis to Government personnel.- Provide crisis communications support in a drafting/advisory capacity.- Analyzes and recommends strategies for, and office use of, social media to publicize office activities and accomplishments.- Train agency personnel to deal with media and media responses- Under the guidance of the United States Attorney, their designee, or the Outreach Team, assist in development of USAO office's outreach strategy to include: - Assessment of efficacy of current outreach initiatives. - Solicitation of feedback from current partners to determine efficacy of present outreach efforts. - Identify potential key partners, especially from underserved communities, with whom the USAO may not presen ly be engaged sufficiently. - Attend meetings with USAO personnel and these key partners to survey their perceptions of USAO outreach efforts (past and prospective) to their organization; measure community attitudes regarding law enforcement, crime prevention, and the criminal justice system; and make recommendations regarding potential needs and goals of diverse and underserved communities. - Present recommendations to the USAO to develop, implement, and participate in the best outreach initiatives for each of these groups.Congressional and Interagency SupportPrepare draft written materials for engagements with congressional and interagency stakeholders.The C
