Nepali Interpreter Job Category: Patient Services Requisition Number:NEPAL001122 Full-Time On-site Springfield, MA 01103, USA GeneralDescription: Under the direction of the Interpreting Supervisor, theMedical Interpreter (MI) provides bilingual/bicultural interpretingservices to patients, families, and staff members at Caring HealthCenter as well as the wider Be Healthy Accountable Care Organization(ACO) network. The MI works as a member of the care team through anintegrated approach to care management; the MI works collaborativelywith the Primary Care Providers, Behavioral Health Providers, Nurses,Medical Assistants, Community Health Workers, and more to provide highquality, culturally and linguistically appropriate health care. The MIfacilitates communication between the patient and the health care systemand supports patients in navigating and accessing care. The MI will worktoward achieving the overall aims of Caring Health Center as well as theBe Healthy ACO network. This position requires compliance with CaringHealth Center's compliance standards, including its Standards ofConduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Suchcompliance will be an element considered as part of the MedicalInterpreter's regular performance evaluation. Education and Experience:Associate's Degree (area related to science or human servicespreferred) or High School Diploma or equivalent background andexperience. One (1) to Two (2) years of interpreting experiencepreferred. Experience in a health care setting preferred. License,Certification, and Registration Satisfactory completion of MedicalInterpreter Training - minimum of 40 hours Minimum Requirements: Highlevel of oral and written communication skills in target language andEnglish. General knowledge of cultural backgrounds of patients to beserved. High level of customer service and a positive approach toworking with others. Understanding of basic components of culturalcompetency. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability tointeract professionally with culturally and educationally diverse staffand clients. Ability to work as an effective team member in a complexand fast-paced environment. Ability to handle unpredictable changes toschedule, workflow, etc. Excellent organizational and time-managementskills. Ability to work independently, problem solve and make decisionsfor the well-being of the patient. Friendly, reliable, and professionalboth in behavior and appearance. Knowledge of computer systems(Electronic Health Record experience a plus). Must have a validDriver's License and a working vehicle, as there will be travelingrequired from site to site including Springfield Behavioral HealthNetwork-Liberty Street. Willingness to work some weekend/evening hoursdepending on need. Principle Responsibilities and Duties: Work as anintegral member of the Care Team, working collaboratively with thePrimary Care Providers, Behavioral Health Providers, Nurses, MedicalAssistants, Community Health Workers, and more to provide high quality,culturally and linguistically appropriate health care. Facilitatecommunication between the patient and all aspects of the health caresystem. Maintain an understanding of a variety of regional accents andlinguistic styles (of target language) and registers and selectsappropriate mode of interpretation for each situation. Interpret withhighest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive,simultaneous, and sight translation modes; notice cues from encounterparticipants regarding level of understanding and/or need forclarification. Recognize underlying assumptions of each party aboutmedicine, the encounter, the illness etc. and use this understanding toempower the patient and provider to better understand each other.
