Work involves providing direction and guidance in database administration operations and planning; providing for the efficient and effective storage, retrieval, customization, and archiving of data to ensure integrated database systems; planning, developing, and implementing database policies and procedures; and maintaining and verifying data integrity. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.This position reports to the Austin office at 300 West 15th Street, Suite 504, Austin, Texas 78701.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSCoordinates and provides application and database operations triage support to troubleshoot and resolve functional and performance issues encountered in production, development, and test environments.Provides advanced database development and oversees and modifies and maintains database structures.Performs logical and physical data modeling, evaluates relational database models, and reviews physical data models created from logical data models.Designs, recommends, and implements procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures.Develops and reviews policies and procedures to guide in the use of database software and resources.Develops goals and objectives for the use and improvement of an efficient and cost-effective database system.Develops standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment.Evaluates and reviews database performance monitoring and implements efficiency improvements.Recommends and implements database security standards and controls, and user access levels.Performs other dutiesas assigned.Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSFive years' experience in computer systems, data analysis, or database development and maintenance work.Graduation from an accreditedcollege or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related science and technologyfield.Education may be substituted with additional four years of experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPrior Texas state agency experience in an information technology capacity.Strong system and business analysis skills.Experience using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, OR LICENSURENoneKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer databases, programming, and systems design.Knowledge of computer operations, systems, and procedures.Knowledge ofcomputer database application systems.Knowledge of computer programming languages,data processing flowcharting techniques, database structures and theories, current database technologies, and data analysis, evaluation, and testing techniques and protocols.Skilled in analyzing complex data and business processes.Skilled in report and query building.Skilled in complex problem solving and critical thinking.Skilled in data analytics.Ability to perform work related tasks promptly and professionally.Ability to identify and define user needs.Ability to provide excellent customer service.Ability to communicate technical issues effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability in using current technology including, but not limited to, use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Adobe Document Cloud Professional.Must be able and willing to work physically in the office during work hours as required.Please visit the Texas Workforce ommission's Skills to Work page to translate your military work experience and training courses into civilian job terms, qualifications, and skill sets.
