Seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team in Breast Medical Oncology. This department seeks to improve the survival of breast cancer patients, provide new knowledge through research, patient-centered clinical care, cancer prevention, and education and outreach with the ultimate goal of eliminating breast cancer. The ideal candidate will be a licensed APRN or PA with at least 2+ years of clinical experience. They will bring a strong background in Oncology, demonstrating both technical expertise and compassionate patient care. Candidates with an Oncology certification are highly preferred, though not required. KEY FUNCTIONS Patient Assessment/Intervention/Evaluation/Performance of Diagnostic/Therapeutic Procedures u2022 Provide quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs. u2022 Conduct health assessment including the medical history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment. u2022 Conduct inpatient service daily rounds on each patient and report findings to the attending physician. u2022 Monitor and review findings of laboratory, clinical, radiographic, and procedural data on ambulatory or inpatient service and develop appropriate plan of care. u2022 Prevents, minimizes, and manages symptoms, toxicities, health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physician and other allied personnel. u2022 Schedules consultation, diagnostic procedures, and facilitates coordination with the attending physician. u2022 Writes prescriptions (if eligible) as needed. u2022 Provides triage in ambulatory setting for consistent patient care. u2022 Writes chemotherapy orders under the supervision of a physician or verifies orders written by physician. Educator/Consultant/Research/Non-Essential u2022 Provides general health education to the patient and his/her family. u2022 Participates in formal and informal instruction of nursing students, professional nurses and other health professionals. u2022 Keeps current by attending continuing education programs related to the clinical area. u2022 Assists in development of education material for use by staff or patient. u2022 Attends departmental meetings pertinent to the Advanced Practice Provider. u2022 Contributes to research efforts of the department in accrual to protocols or trials. u2022 Collaborates with medical, nursing and other disciplines regarding plan of care, follow-up and evaluation. u2022 Recommends therapeutic measures for relief of symptoms. u2022 Initiates or collaborates in research projects. u2022 Assists with the implementation of registered departmental research protocols. EDUCATION Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse u2022 Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. u2022 Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Physician Assistant u2022 Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013. EXPERIENCE Preferred: u2022 At least 2 years of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role. u2022 Oncology experience. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse All of the following: u2022 Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. u2022 Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100). u2022 MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. Physician Assistant All of the following: u2022 PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. u2022 Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. u2022 MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. u2022 Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
