General Transp Tech I:Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.General Transp Tech II:Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and/or materialand process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance onequipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities.Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.General Transp Tech III:Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and/or materialand process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance onequipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities.Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:General Transportation Tech I:Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices. Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Move/picks up litter and roadway debris. Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Performs other job responsibilities as assignedGeneral Transportation Tech II:Includes all essential duties listed for General Transp Tech I as well as:Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and spects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.General Transportation Tech III:Includes all essential duties listed for General Transp Tech I and II as well as:Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rule , regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications. Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records results.Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
