DOWL is seeking a Senior Surveyor to join our growing Surveying team out of our Reno Office. Our existing team of talented surveyors support a diverse size of both internal and external clients across significant geography. Take a look at our company page to learn more about our mission, philosophy, and history: Summary The Senior Professional Land Surveyor 1 manages and leads a variety of surveying tasks including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, preparing legal descriptions, mapping, 3D scanning, and more. The person in this position is expected to exercise a strong work ethic, leadership and organizational skills, mentoring and quality control skills, and produce reliable results. A Senior Professional Land Surveyor 1 demonstrates highly advanced proficiency with complex survey concepts and tasks, quickly learns and apply new survey skills, and mentors and oversees the work of others with less experience. This person is expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and seek guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary. Project Delivery Leads the production of and provides quality control for the following: + Technical reports and memos + Clear and concise field notes + Equipment maintenance checks + Topographic data collection + Topographic base map and surface model + Monument field recovery + Research of public records + Point cloud extractions + Boundary resolutions + Advanced construction calculations + Advanced control network planning + Remote sensing data Understanding Budget and Schedule Strong understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets. Develops scoping, budgets, and schedules for complex tasks. Breaks down complex projects into logical tasks. Able to manage multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget. Mentors staff and provides quality control to other staff. Industry Standards and Regulations Expert level understanding and mentoring of the applicable industry or client standards such as the following and appropriate deviations from: + ALTA surveys + Local platting, surveying standards + ASPRS + BLM cadastral surveys + Client standards Client Interaction Frequent direct communications with clients on large/complex projects. Leads technical client project meetings. Understands appropriate messaging and legal risks. Engages as industry expert on complex projects and pursuits. Leads technical aspects of project interviews. Mentors others on above. Other Other duties as assigned. Level of Work/Accountability Efficiently performs the most technically complex and demanding professional services without supervision. Reviews the work of others and mentors others on complex project tasks. May also perform assistant project management duties, as needed. Leads technical approach on proposals. Supervisory Duties May be a supervisor: + Oversees team operations and the daily workflow of the team + Organizes workflow and ensures that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks + Recruits and hires new employees + Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff + Communicates information from leadership to employees and vice versa + Monitors employee productivity and provides constructive feedback and coaching + Sets goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with companyu2019s plans and vision and communicates them to employees + Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations + Decides on reward and promotion based on performance + Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy Education and/or Experience + Associateu2019s or Bachelor's Degree preferred + Years of experience required: 12 years Certificates, Licenses, Registrations + PLS required (multiple states preferred) + Driving is an essential job function or a valid driveru2019s license is required to support legitimate business purposes Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to create and interpret graphs and understand statistical analysis.
