CORTLAND COUNTY PERSONNEL/CIVIL SERVICE DEPARTMENT60 Central AvenueCortland, NY 13045607-753-5076 NOTICE OF JOB VACANCYJob Title: Public Health Sanitarian (HELP Program)No Civil Service Exam Required!The work involves responsibility for applying physical, biological and social science principles to detect, evaluate, control and manage non-engineering aspects of the environment affecting public health. The incumbent performs environmental investigations and inspections and ensures compliance with applicable State and local sanitary laws, rules, codes and policies. The incumbent has frequent contact with legal, engineering, and medical public health staff as well as other public officials. The work is performed under the general supervision of a Supervising Public Health Sanitarian. The incumbent may be assigned to lead the work of others on assigned projects. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required. Work Hours: Full-Time, 35 hrs per week, with benefitsSalary: $28.0279-35.4763/HR (CSEA Union)Location: Cortland County Health DepartmentStatus: Non-Competitive, ProbationaryBenefits: New York State Retirement System, Low Deductible Health Insurance Plan, Generous Paid Time Off including 13 Paid Holidays, Tuition Assistance available, Position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:(a) Possession of a bachelors degree including thirty (30) credit hours in the natural sciences, of which not more than twelve (12) credit hours may be in the applied sciences; OR(b) Possession of five (5) years of experience as a Public Health Technician deemed satisfactory by the Public Health Director and completion of a public health training course approved by the NYS Health Department. NOTE: Candidates qualifying under (A) above must complete a public health training course approved by the NYS Health Department within two (2) years of appointment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State drivers license is required. Failure to maintain a NYS drivers license including driving privileges throughout employment will result in disciplinary action or dismissal. Must have satisfactorily completed a training course approved by the State Health Department within one (1) year of appointment. NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
