About the Office of the Attorney General Delaware’s Attorney General—the State’s chief law enforcement officer—has broad responsibility for combating crime, upholding civil rights, safeguarding families, fighting fraud, and protecting consumers in the First State. Deputy Attorneys General, supported by criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer protection laws, advise state agencies, ensure public access to open government, protect vulnerable populations, and much more. Summary Statement The White Collar Crime Unit (“WCCU”) in the Fraud & Consumer Protection Division seeks a Deputy Attorney General. The WCCU prosecutes crimes that involve financial misconduct and such other criminal matters assigned by the Division Director. The WCCU also pursues civil actions under the Delaware False Claims and Reporting Act for fraud committed against the government. Career Ladder *Pay Grade 12 DAG I Annual salary $87,458 Pay Grade 14 DAG II Salary Range $92,259/min $96,760/max Pay Grade 16 DAG III Salary Range $101,898/min $104,137/max Pay Grade 18 DAG IV Salary Range $112,013/min $117,440/max Pay Grade 20 DAG V Salary Range $125,885/min $135,154/max *The salary of $87,458 for the Deputy Attorney General I position applies to candidates who hold active bar admission Essential Functions Under the guidance of Unit leadership, this Deputy Attorney General, will decide what cases should be prosecuted, resolved by trial, ortry cases that are not otherwise resolved.While the WCCU is based in New Castle County, this position handles criminal matters statewide and may be based in New Castle, Kent, or Sussex counties; thus, travel throughout the state will be required. Additional duties include representing the Unit at meetings related to business crime matters, including with federal partners; meeting with referral agencies to address investigative and prosecutorial issues; and conducting case intake and review for prosecution. This DAG will work as part of a team with the other members of the WCCU on the full range of WCCU cases. Job Requirements Because the WCCU works closely with, and relies upon, our investigative partners throughout the State, the successful candidate must have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, investigative partners, support staff, and court personnel. This is a challenging position that provides an opportunity to investigate and litigate a wide range of matters, including many large and complex frauds. The Deputy Attorney General should be able to work independently and meet deadlines. Admission to the Delaware Bar is required. Candidates should have a record of solid academic achievement, relevant work experience, and good writing skills. They should have an understanding of all facets of the investigation and litigation of complex criminal matters. Candidates should also have substantial felony trial experience, significant experience handling document-intensive cases involving financial misconduct, and demonstrated ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues. Familiarity with finance, tax, or accounting is helpful, but not a prerequisite. We seek an individual with a strong commitment to working in the public interest.
