Summary Chalmers P. Wylie VAACC Radiology Service is seeking an Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist- Computed Tomography. Employees at this grade are fully functional as an advanced DRT and carry out their assigned tasks independently. DRTs at this level may have varying assignments including special and complex radiographic procedures. Performs radiologic exams ordered by medical providers and used to diagnose medical conditions as part of an overall patient care plan. Responsibilities VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: Major duties include, but are not limited to: Receives requests or instructions to independently perform both diagnostic radiology and CT procedures as well as other collateral duties as assigned. Reviews CT protocols, patient lab results, and pertinent medical history in the Electronic Health Record prior to beginning exam. Reviews patient history to note relevant imaging and follows up with radiologist and or the ordering provider to determine exam need if duplicate orders are found or if a similar exam was recently performed. Performs Low Dose Lung CT exams on a walk-in basis as part of landmark Lung Cancer Screening Program. Monitors patient vital signs when necessary or appropriate for the exam. Documents contrast preparation, amount, IV site, and reactions in Electronic Health Record. Operates digital radiography equipment. Determines technical factors, sets controls, and ensures that the portion of the body specified receives the correct calculated exposure. Attends and participates in radiology department staff and specific sectional meetings. Acts as subject matter expert for both radiography and CT. Understands specific regulatory processes, VA standards regarding Radiology quality assurance and other technical functions.
