Summary The VA Saint Louis Health Care System Department of Medicine seeks an academic leader to join a dynamic and collaborative group of healthcare providers as Chief of the VA Saint Louis. The VA St. Louis Health Care System is recruiting for Full-time section chief, Hospitalist located within Specialty Care Service at our John Cochran Division. The St. Louis VA Health Care System provides cutting-edge surgical and procedural care to veterans. Responsibilities The Chief, of the Hospital Medicine Section is assigned to the VA Saint Louis Health Care System (STLVAMC) Medical Service. The incumbent provides comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality healthcare to all patients while functioning as an academic leader. As the Section Chief, the incumbent serves as the first-line supervisor for all Hospitalist Section employees. - Clinical/Supervisory Split: The position accounts for 60-70% clinical and 30-40% supervisory duties. - Operational Oversight: The Chief is responsible for inpatient attending operations, ensuring Hospitalist coverage for all areas and developing physician schedules. Administrative & Supervisory Leadership - Staff Supervision: Responsible for the supervision of all clinical staff within the section, including assignment of duties and coordinating schedules. - Mentorship: Serves as a mentor to faculty, clinical staff, and trainees, providing ongoing training and supporting professional development. - Performance Management: Conducts mid-year and end-of-year evaluations and ensures annual reviews and proficiency evaluations are completed in a timely manner. - Data & Reporting: Regularly monitors data and presents section goals, targets, benchmarks, and data to the ACOS and Department levels. - Process Improvement: Engages in continuous process improvements in support of a High Reliability Organization (HRO). Academic & Educational Oversight - Affiliate Liaison: Acts as a liaison between the Internal Medicine section and academic affiliates, specifically Washington University in St. Louis and Saint Louis University. - Clinical Instruction: Teaches and trains residents and medical students as part of the academic partnership. - Educational Programming: Assists Med Ed Chief in designing, scheduling, and supervising rotational experiences, learning objectives, and education conference calendars, including grand rounds and resident reports. - Regulatory Compliance: Maintains knowledge of LCME and ACGME policies as they pertain to the learning environment for medical students, residents, and fellows. Clinical Practice & Functions - Scope of Practice: Provides patient care in all aspects of hospitalist services for which they have been credentialed and privileged. - Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Works collaboratively with other providers and multidisciplinary teams to facilitate treatment planning. - Customer Service: Effectively communicates with patients, families, and staff to ensure patient-centered care. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: 7:30am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday with Rotating Tours, Rotating Days, and On-Call. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
