Director of Finance

Description We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to oversee all financial operations of a municipal organization in South Carolina. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing budgets, and providing strategic financial advice to leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to implement effective policies and guide the financial team in achieving organizational goals. Responsibilities: u2022 Lead and manage all accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, and grant management. u2022 Provide expert financial advice and recommendations to the Town Administrator to support decision-making. u2022 Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry best practices. u2022 Supervise and audit the work of financial staff to maintain adherence to accounting standards. u2022 Coordinate the preparation and development of the annual operating and capital budget. u2022 Oversee the accurate recording of financial transactions, including assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures. u2022 Monitor departmental budgets and expenditures, recommending adjustments to optimize the use of resources. u2022 Reconcile general ledger accounts, as well as bank and credit card accounts on a monthly basis. u2022 Prepare journal entries for month-end processes, including interest, depreciation, and other adjustments. u2022 Ensure timely completion of payroll reports for federal, state, unemployment, and retirement purposes. Requirements u2022 Proven experience in managing annual budgets and financial reporting within a municipal or similar organization. u2022 Expertise in month-end close processes and general ledger reconciliation. u2022 Strong knowledge of budget planning, monitoring, and adjustment practices. u2022 Ability to develop and implement cash flow forecasts and financial strategies. u2022 Proficiency in preparing payroll reports and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. u2022 Solid understanding of accounting principles and standards. u2022 Exceptional analytical and organizational skills to manage multiple financial processes. u2022 Strong communication skills to provide clear financial guidance and collaborate effectively with leadership.
