It is not necessary to apply both through Work In Texas and CAPPS Career SectionThe Texas General Land Office is seeking a Government Relations Specialist (Legislative Liaison) within the Governmental Relations Department of the agency.Performs highly advanced (senior-level) legislative and consultative work. Work involves coordinating activities and serving as a liaison between a state agency and governmental and legislative entities. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned by the Government Relations Director and/or the Executive Team.Our Mission:The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources.What Your Contributions to the GLO Will be:and#183;Participates in agency activities related to the legislative session; attends legislative hearings and meetings with legislators, legislative staff, and other legislative liaisons. Additionally, prepare comprehensive summaries and reports of these meetings and hearings.and#183; Assists in creating fiscal impact statements and drafts background summaries, bill analyses, and other requested documents related to legislation and policy issues.and#183;Proactively communicates with state and local officials, as well as with other state agencies, to facilitate coordination and collaboration.and#183;Collaborates with internal subject matter experts within the Texas General Land Office to deliver strategic government relations guidance and insights.Drafts detailed responses to legislative inquiries and meticulously reviews and edits correspondence to ensure accuracy and clarity.Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:and#183;Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in a field relevant to the assignment.and#183;Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience working with the federal or state legislature, legislative staff, or research services.and#183;Experience and education may be substituted for one another.Due to the nature of this position some work on weekends and evenings will be expected.Preferred Qualifications:and#183;Experience in legislative or government communications.and#183;Proficiency in digital media tools and graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) for creating visual content aligned with legislative priorities.and#183; Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legislative information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.Physical Requirements:This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/ customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens.
