Job Description High Level Project Overview: A Microsoft Purview DLP Administrator (Operations) is responsible for managing, monitoring, optimizing, and enforcing data loss prevention policies across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. The role focuses on protecting sensitive data, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and responding to DLP alerts and incidents in a timely manner. The administrator works closely with Security, Compliance, IT Infrastructure, and Governance teams to maintain strong data protection posture across the organization. Key Responsibilities 1. DLP Policy Configuration & Maintenance u2022 Design, implement, and maintain DLP policies in Microsoft Purview Compliance Portal. u2022 Configure sensitivity labels, label policies, and sensitive information types (SITs). u2022 Manage DLP controls across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, endpoints, and third party integrations. u2022 Continuously refine policies based on business needs, false positives, and compliance requirements. ________________________________________ 2. Monitoring & Incident Response u2022 Monitor DLP alerts, policy matches, and incident dashboards. u2022 Perform triage, root cause analysis, and categorize DLP violations. u2022 Work with users and departments to resolve incidents and educate them on data handling. u2022 Escalate high severity incidents to Security or Compliance teams. u2022 Maintain documentation for incidents, actions taken, and remediation steps. ________________________________________ 3. Reporting & Analytics u2022 Generate operational and compliance reports on data leakage trends and incidents. u2022 Provide weekly/monthly dashboards to management and compliance stakeholders. u2022 Analyze DLP data to identify risky behavior patterns and improvement opportunities. ________________________________________ 4. Regulatory Compliance & Governance u2022 Ensure DLP policies align with regulations such as NERC, FERC, SOX ,GDPR, etc. u2022 Work with Governance/Risk teams to support audits and regulatory assessments. u2022 Maintain policy change logs and compliance documentation. ________________________________________ 5. End User Communication & Training u2022 Educate employees about safe data handling practices and DLP policies. u2022 Create user friendly guidance documents, internal knowledge base articles, and SOPs. u2022 Conduct training sessions and awareness campaigns when new policies are deployed. ________________________________________ 6. Integration & Platform Management u2022 Manage DLP across Microsoft 365 workloads and supported endpoints (Windows, macOS). u2022 Integrate DLP with cloud apps via Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (MCAS) when applicable. u2022 Work with identity teams to align DLP rules with Conditional Access and Zero Trust policies. ________________________________________ 7. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement u2022 Review false positives/negatives and fine tune policies. u2022 Develop automation scripts (PowerShell) for reporting or bulk configuration tasks. u2022 Participate in security operations reviews and provide recommendations for improvement. u2022 Track new Purview features and implement updates as needed.
